Q: Do I have to use a newsreader to access your newsgroups?

A: Yes a newsreader software is required to access Usenet newsgroups. And there are many freely-available newsreaders applications available for download -- see www.newsreaders.info for a list of free and paid newsreaders available for PC, MAC, Unix and Linix.

Operating systems such as Windows XP and Vista even come pre-installed with newsreader software. Contact us today if you need instructions with configuring the built-in readers for your particular computer (please include what system you're using in your email to us).

Q: Does your service support all newsreader software (Forte Agent, WinVN, NewsReactor, Newsbin, etc.)?

A: Definitely yes! You can use any newsreader you want as our service supports them all. And it's easy to configure the newsreader - just enter the login, password and server name into the settings (ensure port 119 is the default) and connect. Your newsreader should download list of newsgroup forums automatically.

Q: My newsreader software is asking for the Server/News Server/NNTP Server name - where can I find it?

A: You can find the name of the server in the email you received from us when you joined this newsgroup service. It's located just after the paragraph that lists your login/password. Ensure you spell the server name exactly as given to you -- any errors will result in 'host not found' type messages. If you need additional assistance please contact us.

Q: I am getting a "502 Authentication Error." What does this mean?

A: A "502 Authentication Error" means you may have typed your username and/or password incorrectly -- make sure you have hand-typed-in the username and password; don't copy/paste as extra 'spaces' can cause login errors..
Another possible cause is an expired login(username) due to inaccurate or outdated credit card information that we have on record for you. Contact us today if you need additional assistance.

Usernames and passwords are case sensitive too!

Q: What is the POP3 and/or SMTP address?

A: We do not provide SMTP or POP3 access with the usenet services; you can get that information from your ISP. The NNTP server field is the one you should be concerned with; and is where you can put in the name of the servers we have provided. To configure newsreader software, it's not necessary to enter values for POP and SMTP (they're only used if you're planning on sending "email" through your newsreader software).
